Chromating

The proven method for treating aluminum and galvanized material is chromating. Chromating processes can be divided into yellow chromating and green chromating,  whereby during the first process a combination of chromate and aluminum oxide occurs, while during green chromating a combination of chromate and phosphate is formed. These layers actively contribute to the corrosion resistance and assure an excellent adhesion of all paints and coatings

Both processes contain hexavalent chromium and because of the carcinogenic properties, this demands a careful way of handling in relation to health & safety regulations and the Environment. The big advantage of green chromating is the fact that the layer formed on the treated substrate contains no hexavalent chromium, so this does not come into the environmental systems and meets the REACH legislation.

The chromating processes always go together with the necessary pre-treatment and rinsing steps such as degreasing and possibly pickling. If the products to be treated are extruded, pickling is required. Certain quality labels such Qualicoat require that a specific amount of aluminum is etched off before chromating.

We offer various chromating processes for both aluminum and galvanized steel including all related degreasing and pickling products.
